The most important news and commentary to read right now. - The Slatest - Slate Magazine: "In the two years since Bernard Madoff was arrested for running a Ponzi scheme that went on for decades, both of his sons—Mark and Andrew—were having a hard time getting their lives back in order. They both worked with their father but insist they knew nothing of the fraud and were even the ones who went to the authorities after he confessed. Yet the eldest, Mark, seemed to be having the harder time dealing with the news and moving on with his life, writes the Wall Street Journal. He repeatedly asked those around him how a father could do this to his sons and was unsuccessfully trying to get someone to hire him on Wall Street. While Andrew had develped wider interests over the years, particularly after battling lymphoma, Mark was the one most involved in his father's business. Saturday morning he exchanged early-morning e-mails with his wife, essentially saying he couldn't take it anymore, writes the New York Daily News. 'At one point he said something like, 'You'll have a better life if I'm not around ... I love you,'' a Daily News source said. 'He all but said he was going to kill himself.'"
