FT.com / UK / Politics & policy - Hundreds of quangos face scrap heap: "Hundreds of quangos are to be axed, merged, reformed or have their functions transferred to government departments or local authorities, Francis Maude, the Cabinet Office minister, has announced.
One hundred and ninety-two are to be scrapped, 118 merged down to 57 bodies, and a further 171 will face substantial reform. The total will be cut from 901 to 648, with the future of 40 bodies still under consideration"
